Augusta, Maine – Republican candidate Bobby Charles outlined his campaign priorities at a town hall held in downtown Augusta on Tuesday, pledging to reduce taxes, curb rising energy costs and tighten government spending while expanding oversight of state agencies.

Charles, who is running for the Maine Senate seat representing the 19th district, said his platform centers on “making the state more business‑friendly and accountable.” He argued that high taxes and energy bills are choking economic growth, and that state agencies need stricter checks to ensure taxpayers’ money is spent wisely.

“Tax relief is a must for Maine families,” Charles told attendees. “We must also address the surge in energy prices that has pushed many households beyond their means. And, frankly, we need to hold our government accountable, ensuring that every dollar is used efficiently.”

During the event, Charles outlined several policy proposals. He called for a comprehensive audit of state spending to identify wasteful expenditures and suggested the creation of an independent oversight board that would report directly to the legislature. He also pledged to support legislation that would incentivize renewable energy development while keeping costs manageable for consumers.

Local voters and political observers noted the candidate’s emphasis on fiscal responsibility as a response to the state’s current budget challenges. “Maine has seen significant tax hikes in recent years,” said James Patel, a political analyst for the Lewiston Daily Sun. “Charles’s plan taps into a growing desire among voters to see a more balanced budget.”
