Celtics give guard Devin Carter two-day deal

Celtics Sign Former Providence Star Devin Carter to Two‑Way Contract
The Boston Celtics announced that they have signed guard Devin Carter to a two‑way contract, allowing him to split time between the NBA and the league’s G‑League affiliate, the Maine Celtics. The deal, revealed on Sunday, marks the first professional commitment for the Big East Player of the Year.
Carter, 6‑2 and 199 pounds, was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft. Over two seasons with Sacramento, he appeared in 74 games, including 38 starts last year, and posted averages of 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. After his stint with the Kings, Carter joined the Celtics’ roster under the new agreement, giving him a chance to develop within Boston’s system while still receiving playing time in the G‑League.
The two‑way contract will let Carter spend up to 45 days with the Celtics, with the remainder of his time assigned to Maine. The Maine Celtics will open their season on Nov. 7 in Portland against the Westchester Knicks, giving Carter an immediate opportunity to get back on the court.
Carter’s college career began at South Carolina, where he played three seasons before transferring to Providence. In his senior year, he was named the Big East Player of the Year in 2024, a testament to his playmaking ability and leadership on the floor. The former Providence guard is the son of former NBA guard Anthony Carter, who enjoyed a 13‑season career in the league.
The Celtics’ roster moves extend beyond the signing. Boston also waived four players: forwards Tucker DeVries and Gabe McGlothan, and guards Hayden Gray and Miloš Uzan. The releases clear roster spots and salary cap room as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
Boston’s first game of the regular season is scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Detroit against the Detroit Pistons. The team’s schedule will be followed closely as it integrates Carter’s development into its rotation, while the Maine Celtics look to build a competitive G‑League team in Portland.
For Carter, the move to Boston represents a fresh start after a brief tenure in Sacramento. The two‑way contract offers a path to showcase his skills against higher competition and to contribute to the Celtics’ pursuit of a championship.
