Diddy's federal prison release delayed weeks after reported solitary confinement stint
Sean "Diddy" Combs, the music mogul currently serving a federal prison sentence, now has a new projected release date of Feb. 20, 2028, according to records from the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The updated date pushes his expected departure back by roughly a month from what had been previously listed.
The Bureau of Prisons confirmed the change but declined to discuss why Combs's release date has been revised, or whether any recent disciplinary action played a role. "For privacy, safety and security reasons, we do not release information regarding the conditions of confinement for any inmate, including housing assignments, nor do we discuss whether a particular inmate is the subject of allegations, investigations or sanctions," a Bureau spokesperson said. Representatives for Combs did not respond to requests for comment.
The date revision comes amid an ongoing shift in his time behind bars. Combs, 56, is incarcerated at Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix in New Jersey. Multiple outlets have reported that he was placed in solitary confinement following an altercation with another inmate last month, though it remains unclear whether that incident is connected to the adjusted release timeline.
According to ABC News, the fight broke out after another inmate "made a remark to Combs, which instigated the event." Following the altercation, Combs was transferred to solitary housing.
His time at Fort Dix has been marked by a series of reported disruptions since he began serving his sentence. This is not the first time his projected release date has been adjusted.
Combs's legal troubles stem from his September 2024 arrest on federal sex trafficking charges. The charges followed months of sexual misconduct allegations, civil lawsuits, and a criminal investigation, all of which intensified after surveillance video surfaced appearing to show Combs severely beating his then-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, in the hallway of a Los Angeles hotel.
In July 2025, a federal jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of the more serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking by force or coercion.
In October, he was sentenced to 50 months — just over four years — in federal prison. Prosecutors had pushed for a far harsher penalty, recommending a sentence of 135 months, or just over 11 years.
In addition to his prison term, Combs was ordered to serve five years of supervised release and to pay a $500,000 fine.
While his release is now projected for early 2028, the date remains subject to change. Federal inmates can see their release projections shift for a variety of administrative reasons, including disciplinary actions, good-conduct time calculations, and transfers between facilities.
Ventura, who testified against Combs during his sex crimes trial, has since left the United States, according to documents previously reported on.
