A Maine Warden Service dive team found the body of a missing Damariscotta woman in a Lincoln County pond Thursday.

The body of Bethany Hancock, 50, was recovered by a Warden Service dive team in Biscay Pond at about 4:45 p.m., Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife spokesperson Mark Latti said in a news release Friday.

Hancock was reported missing by her husband Thursday morning after he last saw her the night before, Latti said. Wardens and officers with the Damariscotta Police Department responded and began searching the area.

Latti said searchers found a swim float mat, usually tied to a dock, about 200 yards out on the water. A preliminary search with boats and drones was unsuccessful, but the dive team eventually recovered Hancock’s body.

Her cause of death was not immediately revealed, but her death is not considered suspicious, Latti said.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and Damariscotta and Bristol fire departments also aided in the response.
