Four family members were injured Saturday when they were hit by a vehicle while walking on a sidewalk in downtown Lincoln, authorities say.

The Lincoln police and fire departments responded to the intersection of Main Street and West Broadway around 3:20 p.m. for reports of a crash involving multiple pedestrians, including one person trapped under a vehicle, the police department said in a news release. Firefighters used a Jaws of Life to lift the vehicle off the trapped victim.

A 24-year-old woman was seriously injured and transported to Northern Light Medical Center by LifeFlight, the department said.

A 29-year-old man, a 5-year-old and a 3-month-old also sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said. The Lincoln Fire Department said in a social media post that one of them was transported to a hospital while the two others were treated at the scene.

Police said the preliminary investigation determined that the driver left the road and hit the family of four on the sidewalk.

Police identified the driver as a 57-year-old Mattawamkeag man. He is charged with operating under the influence and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs; police say they located methamphetamine in his vehicle and could see that he was impaired.

The investigation is ongoing, and the department said the man may face additional charges.
