A house fire in Kittery early Thursday morning displaced three residents and sent one firefighter to the hospital with injuries that were not considered serious.

Kittery Fire Chief Randall Trull said crews were dispatched to 50 Tenney Hill Road at approximately 1:10 a.m. The first unit to arrive quickly determined the situation warranted a second alarm, triggering a regional response that drew firefighters from across southern Maine and into New Hampshire.

All occupants of the home were able to escape before emergency crews arrived, according to Trull. The three residents who lived there are now displaced as a result of the fire.

One firefighter sustained an injury during the response and was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being released, Trull said.

In a statement, the fire chief expressed gratitude to the neighbors who came to the aid of the residents in the moments after the fire broke out. "Your kindness and humility are truly heartwarming," Trull said.

The chief also credited the broader mutual aid network that responded to the scene. In addition to Kittery firefighters, crews from Eliot, South Berwick, York Beach and York Village in Maine joined the effort, along with four New Hampshire fire departments. Stewart's Ambulance Service, the American Red Cross and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard also provided assistance. Two additional New Hampshire departments covered a Kittery station while local crews were committed to the fire.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. No further information about the extent of the damage to the home was immediately available.
