Guilford man charged with murder in deadly assault; officials identify 1 victim

PISCATAQUIS COUNTY — A Guilford man has been charged with murder in connection with a weekend assault that left one man dead and a woman fighting for her life, authorities said Tuesday.
Ryan Carleton, 49, was initially arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated assault following the attack at two residences on Pine Street. The Maine Department of Public Safety announced Tuesday that those charges had been elevated to intentional or knowing murder after a court hearing in Piscataquis County.
Investigators have identified the man who died as Brent Doore, 63. He was pronounced dead at a hospital after being transported from the scene.
The violence unfolded Sunday evening when the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office responded to a well-being check at 24 Pine St. in Guilford. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man and woman with serious injuries at the adjacent property, 26 Pine St. State police were called to assist.
Doore succumbed to his injuries during transport to a medical facility, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety. The woman, whose name has not been released, remained hospitalized in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
An autopsy conducted Monday by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta determined Doore's cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries. Officials have ruled the death a homicide.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit continues to lead the investigation with support from the Piscataquis County Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact authorities.
