Maine Audubon is offering bird enthusiasts a chance to get questions answered by staff naturalist Doug Hitchcox during a live online Q&A session scheduled for July 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event invites participants to ask questions in real time or submit them in advance through a dedicated submission form on the organization's website. The session aims to help both seasoned birders and newcomers learn more about Maine's avian wildlife.

Hitchcox, who writes a regular wildlife column for the Portland Press Herald, has been answering reader questions about birds and other animals for several years. He also serves as one of Maine's eBird reviewers, owns and moderates the "Maine-birds" listserv, sits on the York County Audubon board, and is a voting member of the Maine Bird Records Committee.

A native of Hollis, Maine, Hitchcox graduated from the University of Maine in 2011. His expertise spans local bird behavior, migration patterns, and identification tips specific to Maine's diverse ecosystems.

Those unable to attend the live session can still submit questions beforehand and return later to read responses posted by the organization. Regular readers of his Press Herald column can also continue reaching out to Hitchcox directly via email for wildlife-related inquiries outside the scheduled event.
