Prosecutors have dismissed felony charges against a man whom they accused of participating in a robbery that preceded a fatal fight. Troy McHugh, 52, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor assault on May 22, according to court records. He was given a 72-hour sentence, which he has already served, followed by a year of probation. McHugh was [indicted in August along with another man](https://www.pressherald.com/2025/08/14/2-more-men-charged-in-relation-to-deadly-2024-biker-gang-brawl-near-morrills-corner/), William Holmes. They both previously faced felony charges for an incident on July 30, 2024, that occurred hours before a large fight on Forest Avenue in which police said Holmes and McHugh were victims. McHugh’s wife was shot and killed. McHugh’s attorney said that McHugh spent several days in the hospital and still suffers from a brain injury. Prosecutors from the Cumberland County district attorney’s office alleged that McHugh and Holmes are members of a motorcycle club known as FSU, and that they had used force to take property — a jacket and a handgun, which McHugh reportedly unloaded — from a member of Higher Calling, a rival group affiliated with the Outlaws. A prosecutor dismissed both robbery counts against McHugh on May 22. His attorney Luke Rioux said that the evidence showed McHugh was not physically violent with anyone in that encounter. Advertisement “In the end, we negotiated this to avoid the risk of going to trial, despite the fact that we had strong arguments in his defense,” Rioux said. The case involving Holmes is still pending, according to court records, which indicate that his case has been moved to the mental health docket. A judge ordered a mental health evaluation for Holmes in March. The Office of the Maine Attorney General pursued charges against the reported Higher Calling members who were involved in the fight. Rioux said he was “disappointed” that the district attorney’s office moved forward with prosecuting McHugh, “despite the fact that he was savagely beaten” and lost his wife.
