Lewiston police investigate downtown shooting just days after similar incident

Lewiston, Maine – Lewiston Police Department announced that it had recovered more than two dozen shell casings in a recent patrol. The discovery has prompted the department to request information from the public as investigators work to determine what, if any, incident led to the evidence.
The shell casings were found in a residential area of Lewiston, prompting a thorough search of the surrounding property. Police say the casings were from firearms and indicate that a shooting or other violent event may have taken place, but investigators have not yet confirmed a specific incident.
“We are looking for any witnesses or anyone who may have seen something unusual in the area,” a police spokesperson said. “If you have any information, no matter how small, please contact the Lewiston Police Department.”
The department is encouraging anyone who might have seen activity or heard sounds consistent with gunfire in the weeks leading up to the discovery to come forward. The public can contact Lewiston Police by phone at 207‑XXX‑XXXX or through the department’s official website.
Investigators are continuing to collect evidence from the scene, and the police will provide updates as more details become available.
