Scarborough Community Voices Support for Mary Shannon Lindstrom in 2026 State House Race

In a letter published to the local paper this week, Cory Fellows—Chair of the Scarborough Town Council—expressed strong support for Mary Shannon Lindstrom’s candidacy for state representative. Fellows, a longtime resident and public servant in the town, urged voters to back Lindstrom in the upcoming November election for the State House seat that covers Scarborough.

Lindstrom, who has served as chair of the Scarborough Board of Education, highlighted her record of leadership in the education sector. According to Fellows, Lindstrom guided the board through difficult budget periods and was a key figure in a prolonged, yet ultimately successful effort to modernize and expand the town’s schools. The initiative, which faced initial skepticism, ultimately won broad community approval, according in part to Fellows to the leader’s ability to build consensus.

“I have seen Shannon lead the board through challenging budget cycles, and she was a major contributor to the lengthy but successful effort to arrive at a school modernization and expansion solution that an overwhelming majority of the community could support,” Fellows wrote. “Her pragmatic, consensus‑building approach and impressive work ethic will serve her and her constituents well in Augusta.”

Beyond the realm of education, Fellows noted that Lindstrom’s connections with local stakeholders—including the Town Council itself—have been a consistent hallmark of her public service. “I’ve appreciated her efforts to build connections with the Town Council (which I chair) and other stakeholders,” he added, underscoring the collaborative nature of her approach.

The letter also outlined a few of the issues the candidate is expected to address if elected. In the capital, state‑wide debates over school funding formulas and property‑tax relief remain at the forefront of policy discussions. Fellows emphasized that a representative who can “think independently and work inclusively” would be essential for navigating these challenges.

“The need for leaders who can think independently and work inclusively has never been greater,” Fellows wrote. “Please join me in voting for Shannon for the State House in November.”
