MAGA response to ICE is especially mean, obscene | Letter
100%

I drove down to Biddeford last week to protest ICE’s shooting of a young man.

I stood with a small group of protesters and waved at cars going by the vigil site. Most of the cars passing either waved and honked in support or ignored us. A few gave us a thumbs down. And there were a handful who tried to intimidate us. A number of middle fingers thrust out windows, a crew cab pickup passed with young men hanging out of it, shouting, “Go home, you f*cking morons.” A few others shouted similar profanities at us. And a couple of vehicles, with loud exhausts, accelerated hard when they passed to make excessive, threatening noise.

“There are good people on both sides.” There is some truth to that, but the MAGA side seems to have the preponderance of mean people, or at least people who feel entitled to shout obscenities and threats at those who express views different from theirs.

Reading in today’s paper about the protest in Scarborough that was interrupted by a man armed with a gun and knife, I see my experience of verbal abuse in Biddeford pales in comparison with what others have tolerated.

I wonder how the “good people” on the MAGA side of the political divide feel watching so many of their compatriots behaving so abhorrently. I wonder can they ever find the backbone to, in anyway, show their disapproval. I hope one day they will.
