Martha Stewart gets candid about plastic surgery, dating as she turns 85

Martha Stewart, the lifestyle mogul who built an empire on homemaking and entertaining, turned 85 last week and marked the milestone with characteristic candor, revealing she has no intention of slowing down—or going under the knife.

In an interview with People magazine, Stewart confirmed she has never undergone plastic surgery, relying instead on a disciplined regimen of skincare, regular facial treatments, and minor cosmetic touch-ups.

"I use a little bit of fillers," she said. "I go maybe once every four months for touch-ups. I'm more a maintenance kind of person. I'm not getting boobs done and hips and butts and stuff like that."

The mother of two credited her youthful appearance to genetics and decades of healthy habits. "I have good genes. My mom looked great at 95," Stewart said. "We eat well. We don't drink very much. We don't smoke. We eat healthy food. We exercise daily. I horseback-ride."

Stewart also shared her evolving perspective on relationships as she ages. When asked whether she envies friends with happy marriages, she offered a frank assessment: "The older you get, the less you really need a mate, I think. I wouldn't want to be beleaguered with an older, ill person."

The birthday milestone brought a moment of reflection at her 156-acre Bedford, New York, farm, where Stewart recreated her iconic 1995 People magazine cover. The original photograph helped cement her status as America's preeminent homemaking authority. Nearly three decades later, she remains a perfectionist.

"I still like to do many things at the same time. I like to do all the same things I've pretty much always done," she said. "I'd like to have a little bit more free time. I don't have any free time at all, but I'm working on that."

Born in Nutley, New Jersey, Stewart began her career modeling before launching a catering business and publishing her first cookbook, "Entertaining." That single volume sparked an empire spanning magazines, television programs, retail partnerships, and home products. In 1999, she became the first self-made female billionaire in the United States.

Since then, Stewart has authored more than 100 cookbooks, opened restaurants, launched multiple product lines, and made history as the oldest model to appear on the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover at age 81. Her latest ventures include Hint, a home intelligence app, and a skincare line.

When asked if she has everything she wants, Stewart pointed to her newest project. "I didn't have an app for my home, and so I'm making one," she said.

As for the number attached to her birthday, Stewart offered a philosophical dismissal. "Eighty-five is just a number; that's all I consider it," she said. "My goal is to keep learning about everything."

The celebration extended to her sprawling Maine estate, where Stewart posted a photo of herself relaxing in a bubbling hot tub surrounded by evergreen trees. "I am going to use this amazing hot tub every single day I am in Maine," she wrote. "Invigorating restorative Therapeutic relaxing."

Fans flooded the comments with praise, with one writing, "Damn serving face too." Another simply wrote, "Martha you are everything truly."

Despite her worldwide fame and estimated fortune, Stewart said she declined to host a party for the occasion. "It's not a big deal," she said.
