Andrew "Andy" White, 69, of Wells Remembered for Kind Spirit and Love of Music

WELLS — Andrew "Andy" Leonard White, a longtime resident of Wells known for his gentle demeanor and infectious smile, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H. He was 69 years old.

White was born on May 17, 1957, in Sanford, the son of Hector and Marguerite (Champagne) White. He spent his formative years in the Sanford area before eventually settling in Wells.

White's professional journey began at a local woolen mill, where he started his career. He later spent many years working at Lavalley Lumber before transitioning to healthcare, where he most recently served in Materials Management at MaineHealth Biddeford Campus. Throughout his working life, White found genuine joy in his jobs and cherished the friendships he built with coworkers at each place.

Those who knew White describe him as a soft-spoken, gentle, and kind man whose positive outlook on life left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His family and friends remember him for his infectious smile and his ability to appreciate the simple things in life.

"I just loved being around him," said one close friend. "He had this way of making everyone feel comfortable. Everyone who ever met Andy always said the same thing—'God, what a nice guy!'"

White's interests were varied and passionate. He was an avid cyclist and an active member of the Southern Maine Coast Cycling Club. He also enjoyed fishing, playing guitar, and listening to music. A lover of good food and coffee, White treasured the conversations and laughter shared with friends and family, often reminiscing about the old days.

White is survived by his two children, Jennifer White and Andrew White; his mother, Marguerite Sladen; and his siblings Anthony (Kirsten) White, William (Terri) White, Matthew (Kathie) White, Angela (Barry) Elliott, and Rebecca (Tim) Gaillard. He also leaves behind his grandson, Andrew, several nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends who will remember him fondly.

In recognition of White's deep love for music, the family has requested that memorial donations be directed to the Biddeford Youth Arts Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be made online at artofbiddeford.org/byasf.

A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at Bibber Memorial at Autumn Green, located at 47 Oak St. in Alfred. Those wishing to share a memory or leave a message of condolence may visit the Book of Memories page on the funeral home website.
