Obituary: Bradley Stephen Dupee
Bradley Stephen Dupee, a retired New Hampshire Army National Guard colonel who built a distinguished 35‑year military career and later enjoyed a second act in Maine’s business community, died unexpectedly at his Scarborough home on Aug. 7, 2026. He was 82.
Born in Keene, N.H., on Sept. 21, 1943, Dupee grew up in Concord after his family moved during his elementary school years. He graduated from Concord High School in 1961 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from Bryant College in Rhode Island.
His entrance into the military came on Aug. 10, 1964, when he enlisted as a private in the New Hampshire Army National Guard. After completing basic and advanced individual training, he graduated from the state’s Officer Candidate School (Class 9) in July 1966 and received his commission. Dupee’s first leadership role was as a platoon leader in Battery A, “Searchlight,” 197th Field Artillery, overseeing the searchlight battery.
In 1974 he transferred to the 3rd Battalion, 197th Field Artillery, where he commanded Service Battery and later served as the battalion’s intelligence officer. Over the following years he rose through the ranks, holding positions that included recruiting and retention officer, equal opportunity officer, logistics officer, maintenance officer, supply and service management officer, and brigade executive officer. From 1990 to 1993 he commanded the 1st Battalion, 172nd Field Artillery, before moving to senior staff responsibilities as director of planning, operations, training and military support for civil authorities. He concluded his service as deputy commander of the State Area Command (STARC) and retired in 1999 as a colonel.
Dupee’s career was marked by several high‑ranking honors, most notably the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal, both reflecting his exceptional leadership and dedication to the soldiers he led.
Beyond his military service, Dupee maintained a vibrant professional life. He worked for Colbath Associates, Federal Distributors and, most notably, as a real‑estate agent with Keller Williams, where he and his wife, Judy, formed “The Dupee Team.” In his later years he joined Enterprise Mobility, a role he continued even after retirement and where he forged many lasting friendships.
Dupee’s commitment to community extended to the honor flights that recognize veterans. In 2026 he traveled to Washington, D.C., with his oldest son, Bradley Dupee Jr., as his escort on Honor Flight Maine, a fitting tribute to a lifetime of service.
Family was central to Dupee’s life. He married Judith Linda Edes Dupee, affectionately known as “Tinkerbell,” and the couple shared more than four decades together in Concord before moving to Portland and eventually settling in Scarborough. After his wife’s death in 2010, he found companionship with Christine Watters, who was by his side for the last 14 years.
Dupee is survived by his three children: Bradley Stephen Dupee Jr. (Amy), Robin Letarte (Bryan) and Eric Dupee (Erin). He was a proud grandfather of seven: Madison, Laine, Chase, Emma and Sam Letarte, and Garrett and Caleb Dupee. He also leaves his sister, Diana Osgood of New Hampshire, her son, Troy Osgood, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A memorial service will follow at the same venue, after which a graveside ceremony with full military honors will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave., Portland. Those unable to attend in person can view live streams of the memorial service and the graveside rite via the funeral home’s website and Facebook page.
