Obituary: Herbert N. Huff Sr.

Herbert N. Huff Sr., 89, of Boothbay, dies
Boothbay, Maine – Herbert N. Huff Sr., a lifelong resident of the Boothbay area, died Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the age of 89. He passed peacefully at home after a long life of service, faith, and devotion to family.
Huff was born on October 2, 1936, in Windham, Maine, to Melvin and Geneva (Morrell) Huff. He graduated from Windham High School before joining the United States Air Force, where he worked as a skilled mechanic. After his military service, the elder Huff brought his knowledge of machinery to the farm and local golf course, keeping equipment running smoothly for years.
A man of strong faith, Huff spent much of his free time in the outdoors. He cherished fishing trips and hunting adventures with his brother‑in‑law, Martin Vonknoblauch, sharing stories, laughter, and a deep friendship that the Huff family said meant the world. His love for nature was matched only by his love for his family.
Huff was married to Edna Huff for 34 years. The couple shared a life of companionship and mutual support until her death, predeceased by both of her parents and all nine of her siblings. Herbert’s parents, Melvin and Geneva, had also passed before him, as had his sister, brother, and brother‑in‑law.
He is survived by his daughter Bernice Walker and her husband Mark, both of Windham; his son Herbert N. Huff Jr., of New Sharon; and three grandchildren—Mark Walker III of Windham, Katelyn Walker, and Kyle Walker, both of Westbrook.
The family has chosen to honor Herbert’s life privately. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Hall Funeral Home in Boothbay. Those wishing to share memories or condolences are invited to add a message to the family’s Book of Memories at www.hallfuneralhomes.com.
In keeping with his lifelong devotion to scripture, the family shared a favorite verse: “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.” (Colossians 3:17)
