Jack Dixon, Gorham Resident and Devoted Family Man, Dies at 84

Jack Dixon, a longtime Gorham resident who built a four-decade career at a Saco financial firm while remaining deeply devoted to his family, died on June 26, 2026, after a long illness. He was 84.

Born on Nov. 22, 1941, at Saco Hospital to Harold and Vivian (Mann) Dixon, Dixon graduated from Thornton Academy in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army shortly after. He went on to work at H.M. Payson for 40 years, rising to the position of Managing Director and Partner. Even in retirement, his enthusiasm for the stock market never waned, and he continued to follow and invest in it for years.

Dixon's life was shaped in large part by his family and the community connections he built along the way. While coaching Little League in Saco from 1973 to 1975, he met Joanne, the woman who would be his wife for the next 51 years. Those who knew him described him as a kind, lighthearted, and loving man with a generous heart, someone who supported and guided his family whenever he could.

He was an avid golfer and had held a membership at Deep Brook Golf Course since 2002. He also enjoyed traveling and loved playing cribbage with family members. A favorite saying of his, often delivered with a grin whether or not the cards justified it, was "I'm in a good position to win."

Dixon is survived by his wife, Joanne Dixon; his son, David Dixon, and David's wife, Ginger, of Dayton; his daughter, Lisa Hebert, and her husband, Norman, of Ogunquit; stepsons Daniel Labbe and his wife, Wanda, of East Waterboro, Kenneth Labbe and his wife, Penny, of Saco, and Gary Labbe of Gorham; five grandchildren, Kristen Labbe, Heather Dixon, Jordyn Mobley, Eva Labbe, and Ashley Smith; and two great-granddaughters, Aria Crockett and Alexis Burger. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Leisha Tarbox.

Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Cote Funeral Home, 87 James Street, Saco, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow immediately at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.

An online memorial page is available through the Cote Funeral Home website for those wishing to leave condolences. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gorham House in Gorham or to Beacon Hospice.
