Obituary: Janice I. Cobb
Janice I. Cobb, 90, of South Street in Freeport, passed away on July 28, 2026.
Born in Portland on April 12, 1936, Janice was the daughter of Wendell and Lucy (Skillin) Meserve. She grew up in Scarborough and graduated from Scarborough High School with the class of 1953.
During her senior year she met the man who would become her husband, Cecil H. Cobb Jr., affectionately known as “Cobby.” The couple married on Aug. 14, 1954, and raised two daughters, Patti and Cindy, who both remain residents of Freeport. Janice’s family was the center of her life, and she treasured the moments spent with them.
In her working years Janice held a variety of positions before finding her calling at L.L. Bean, where she spent 17 years before retiring. After retirement she continued to lend her expertise during the busy holiday season, working in the fulfillment center.
Outside of work, Janice enjoyed a rich array of hobbies. She was an avid reader and a fan of word‑search puzzles, and she rarely missed an episode of “Wheel of Fortune.” Occasional trips to local casinos added a bit of excitement to her routine. Janice’s love of travel took her to many destinations; Aruba was her favorite island, and she made numerous vacations to Florida. Earlier in life she also enjoyed camping. In 2018 she embarked on her first cruise with her daughter Cindy, a trip both described as unforgettable.
Janice was predeceased by her parents, her husband Cecil, and her sister Evelyn Fuller Jensen. She is survived by her daughters Patti Eastman and Cindy Tucci (married to Rocco), an “unofficial stepdaughter,” Laurie Whittemore of Wales, four grandchildren, seven great‑grandchildren and one great‑great‑grandchild.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., after which Janice will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery in Pownal.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.
Janice I. Cobb will be remembered for her warm spirit, dedication to family and her zest for travel and learning. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched.
