Obituary: Louise C. Berg

Louise C. Berg, 74, of Westbrook, died on Friday, July 31, 2026, after developing pneumonia that was complicated by her long‑standing condition, oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy.

Born on Oct. 28, 1951, in Eagle Lake, Maine, she was the daughter of Gedeon and Madeline (Thibeault) Dionne. She grew up in Aroostook County with her siblings, Nicole and David. After graduating from Houlton High School in 1970, she earned a hairdressing license from D’Lor Beauty School and moved to Westbrook to begin her career as a hairstylist. She later joined Unum, where she worked until retirement.

In 1973, Louise met Raymond Berg at Shakey’s Pizza Parlor in Westbrook. They were married on July 13, 1974, in Houlton, and in 1977 they welcomed their daughter, Elena.

Louise was an avid gardener who found joy in her flower and vegetable beds. She enjoyed traveling with family, especially to national parks and warm‑weather beaches, and she loved reading, baking, solving puzzles, and watching sports. Summers were often spent at Harmons Beach, and she cherished watching her granddaughter, Phoebe, perform in ballet.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Berg; her daughter, Elena (Berg) Raymond, and her husband, Jason Raymond; her granddaughter, Phoebe Raymond; her siblings, Nicole Tapley and her husband, Wayne, and David Dionne and his wife, Robin; as well as numerous sisters‑in‑law, brothers‑in‑law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family expressed gratitude to the staff of Maine Medical Center’s emergency room, intensive care unit, and P3CD unit for the exceptional care they provided. “The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Maine Medical Center’s emergency room, intensive care unit, and P3CD unit for the exceptional care they provided to Louise and her family.”

Louise’s remains were cremated, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
