Nancy V. Gamage Celebrated Life of Family, Community, and Enduring Traditions

Nancy V. Gamage touched countless lives during her 87 years, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and cherished family traditions. The Garland resident passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, surrounded by family at her home in Maine.

Born on June 12, 1939, in Damariscotta, Nancy was the daughter of Harvey F. and Jennie L. Gamage of South Bristol, where she spent her formative years. Her educational path took her through Kents Hill Preparatory School before continuing her studies at Westbrook Junior College.

After raising five children, Nancy built a distinguished career as a bookkeeper and accountant, demonstrating remarkable dedication by continuing her professional work until retiring at age 70. Her ability to balance family and career served as an inspiration to those who knew her.

Nancy's greatest joy came from her family. She delighted in watching her children and grandchildren grow and flourish, and she made it her mission to ensure every birthday and special occasion was remembered and celebrated. Those who knew her well remember her thoughtfulness and the countless handwritten notes and thoughtful gestures that made loved ones feel truly seen and appreciated.

Family gatherings at Pemaquid Lake represented some of her happiest memories. Each summer, Nancy would return to the family camp where she swam in the cool waters, baked her signature blueberry cake, and listened to the distinctive calls of the loons that inhabited the lake. These annual traditions became the foundation for decades of memories that she carefully cultivated for her expanding family.

Beyond her family life, Nancy found joy in tending her flower gardens, transforming her outdoor spaces into colorful displays that邻居们 and visitors admired. Her creative talents extended to knitting and crocheting, through which she produced countless afghans and mittens that now warm the bodies and hearts of family members across multiple generations.

Music played a significant role throughout her life. Nancy enjoyed diverse musical tastes and never passed up an opportunity to dance. The Maine State Music Theatre held a special place in her heart, and she frequently attended performances, sharing her love of the arts with those around her.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Theresa Champagne and her husband Bryan of Phippsburg, and her son Anthony "Tony" Gamage and his wife Lanie of Garland. Her family circle includes grandchildren Bryan Champagne, Jessica Schwartz, Kevin Wiacek, Jennie Froehly, Macy Lamson, Hannah Malone, and Tristan Vannah, along with 11 great-grandchildren who will carry forward the traditions she established.

She was preceded in death by three of her children: Vincent Schwartz of Lisbon, Valerie Wiacek of Gorham, and Thomas Schwartz of Harpswell.

A private celebration of Nancy's life was held at the family camp on Pemaquid Lake, where her spirit of togetherness and love of tradition came full circle.
