Maine Rail Officials Respond to Train Derailment Near Veazie

Railroad officials in Maine are investigating a train derailment that left 13 rail cars off the tracks, with the locomotive end of the train discovered more than a mile away from the initial incident site.

The derailment occurred in the vicinity of the Veazie and Main Street railroad crossings, according to officials who confirmed the incident. Emergency responders were spotted at the scene as crews worked to assess the damage and determine what caused the cars to leave the tracks.

The front portion of the train, including the locomotive, came to rest approximately one mile north of the Veazie and Main Street crossings, officials said. The distance between the crossings and where the train's front end was found suggests the locomotive traveled a significant distance after the initial derailment before coming to a stop.

Authorities have not yet released information about potential injuries or what cargo the derailed cars were carrying. An investigation into the cause of the derailment is underway, though officials have not specified when additional details might become available.

Railroad officials are expected to provide more information as the investigation progresses. Crews remain at the scene working to clear the derailed cars and assess the condition of the tracks in the area.
