Portland needs to make city parking easier | Letter

100%
I love my city of Portland! That is in spite of the high taxes, sloppy drivers (too often resulting in injury or death) and the horrible parking situation. I have heard from many visitors, from Maine and beyond, that the parking situation is keeping them from coming into the city (or returning). Too expensive, they say, a rip-off!
I don’t mind paying the city’s current rate, but finding a city parking spot is not an easy venture. Something needs to be done. There are plenty of parking spots (they are just not at all visitor-friendly). Many visitors don’t want to bother with the hassle of finding reasonable parking, which results in fewer customers downtown to visit our many wonderful shops and restaurants. Other cities (Biddeford, Saco, Westbrook) seem to be able to offer reasonable parking. Why not Portland? Do we really want our visitors to leave Portland with a bitter taste in their mouths?
