Portland Pie Company to close Westbrook location

Portland Pie Company to close Westbrook location

Portland Pie Company announced Tuesday that its long‑standing Westbrook shop will close at the end of September as its lease expires. The storefront, which has been a local staple for two decades, will shut its doors on Friday, Sept. 25.

The decision comes as the company’s lease on the Westbrook premises is up for renewal. While another restaurant has expressed interest in taking over the space, Portland Pie’s management declined to disclose its identity. “For 20 years, Westbrook has been an important part of the Portland Pie Company family,” owner and CEO Jeff Perkins said in a press release. “We are incredibly grateful to our loyal customers, our employees, and the entire Westbrook community for supporting us and making this location so special.”

Perkins added that the firm will keep looking for new sites. “We will continue exploring potential new locations,” he said. The announcement also assured that the company’s eight other Maine locations will stay open and operate as usual.

All staff at the Westbrook location have been offered transfers to other Portland Pie restaurants. The company has emphasized its commitment to retaining employees wherever possible.

Westbrook’s 20‑year tenure has seen the shop grow from a modest bakery into a neighborhood gathering place, offering a range of pies, pastries and seasonal treats. Its closing marks the end of an era for both the company and the local community, though the Portland Pie brand remains active across the state.

Customers and employees alike are encouraged to visit the remaining locations before the Westbrook shop closes. Portland Pie’s website lists current opening hours and contact information for each branch, ensuring that fans of the company’s signature pastries can continue to enjoy their favorites.

The announcement underscores the challenges many small businesses face when lease agreements conclude, especially after a long period of community service. Despite the closure, the company’s broader presence in Maine remains robust, with plans underway to secure a new footprint that will keep the Portland Pie name alive in the region.
