Portland Police Seek Witnesses in Fatal Stabbing on Tukey's Bridge

Portland police are continuing their investigation into the killing of a 21-year-old woman who was fatally stabbed on a popular local trail last week, and are asking the public for help identifying several individuals who were in the area at the time of the attack.

Julian Nadeau, who was also known as Juju, was killed on the evening of August 5 while walking with friends along the Back Cove Trail near Tukey's Bridge. According to court documents, the group was approached by a man on a bicycle who yelled at them, sparking an argument that quickly escalated. The man, later identified as 58-year-old Glen Rodney of Portland, allegedly pulled out a knife and chased Nadeau and her friend along the southbound side of Interstate 295. Authorities say he jumped on top of Nadeau and stabbed her once in the chest.

Rodney has been charged with murder and is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail. He is scheduled to remain in custody pending his next court appearance.

Detectators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who was on or near the bridge between 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. on the evening of the attack. Police have released descriptions of three specific groups or individuals they would like to identify:

• Three men who were walking on the bridge path wearing white T-shirts and speaking Spanish.
• A man and a woman who appeared to be in their early 20s, wearing helmets and riding bicycles on the bridge path from the Back Cove area.
• The driver of a light tan or gold pickup truck who pulled over on the bridge before officers arrived.

A photograph of Nadeau was released by her family, who have described her as a vibrant and loving friend. The community has been mourning the loss in the days following her death.
