"LIV Golf has an agreement in place with a lead investor, signed by the investor and approved by the Board, to anchor the transaction and play a key role in supporting the path forward for the League's next era, driven by and for the players," O'Neil said in a statement.
The investor's identity has not been disclosed, and details of the arrangement remain limited. O'Neil's announcement did not specify when the deal would be formalized or how much capital the new backer would provide.
The timing of the funding announcement provides a boost to a league that has worked to establish itself despite ongoing competition with the traditional PGA Tour. LIV Golf has attracted several high-profile players with lucrative contracts since its inception, but the departure of the Saudi fund had cast doubt on its long-term viability.
