Local Graduates Mark Academic Milestones

Two young women with Maine connections celebrated significant achievements this month, completing their undergraduate studies at institutions in the Northeast.

A granddaughter of David Treadwell of Maine earned her degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The private research university, founded in 1821, serves as one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in the nation's capital.

Meanwhile, a student who was hosted by a local Bowdoin College host family crossed the stage at the Brunswick campus, completing their studies at the historic liberal arts college. Bowdoin, founded in 1794, enrolls roughly 1,800 students annually and has produced numerous notable alumni across generations.

The simultaneous celebrations highlight the diverse paths Maine students and community members take in pursuing higher education, with some traveling to major metropolitan areas while others build connections closer to home through programs like Bowdoin's host family initiative.

Both institutions maintain strong traditions of Commencement exercises each spring, drawing family members and supporters to mark the transition from academic life to professional careers or advanced studies.
