Rockland library to screen documentary ‘Black Snow’

Rockland Public Library will screen the documentary “Black Snow” at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 18, in collaboration with [POV by PBS](http://pbs.org/pov).
In a remote Siberian coal town, homemaker-turned-journalist Natalia Zubkova investigates an abandoned mine fire releasing toxic gas into residential homes. When her reporting goes viral, government officials launch an aggressive cover-up campaign, putting her directly in their crosshairs.
The film was directed by Alina Simone and produced by Kirstine Barfod.
Simone is a journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Guardian Long Read, California Sunday, Slate and NPR, among many other outlets. She is the recipient of a Logan Foundation Non-Fiction Fellowship, the Andrew Berends Film Fellowship and a 2021 NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship in video/film.
Barfod is an award-winning producer. She has produced and co-produced a dozen feature documentaries and documentary series, including “Ibrahim,” “The Magic Life of V” and “Reunited.” She has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2019.
