Sea Dogs give up 7 runs in 5th inning, lose to Curve
PORTLAND, Maine – The Altoona Curve claimed a 12‑8 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday night in an Eastern League game at Hadlock Field. The win was sparked by a seven‑run surge in the fifth inning that gave the Curve a commanding lead they never relinquished.
Altoona’s big fifth began when Callen Moss lifted a grand‑slam homer over the left‑field wall, clearing the bases and putting the Curve up 4‑0. Lonnie White Jr. followed with an RBI double down the right‑field line, and Derek Berg drove in another run with a double of his own. Keiner Delgado capped the rally with an RBI single, completing a seven‑run frame that pushed the score to 9‑0.
Portland responded immediately. In the bottom of the same inning, Caden Rose connected on a grand‑slam of his own, pulling the Sea Dogs within five runs at 9‑4. Franklin Arias then stepped up and launched his 16th home run of the season, a solo shot that trimmed the deficit to six runs.
The Sea Dogs continued to chip away. In the sixth, Nelly Taylor homered to left field for two runs, cutting the lead to 9‑6. One inning later, Nate Baez sent a solo homer over the center‑field fence, making it a one‑run game at 9‑8.
Altoona re‑extended its cushion in the eighth. A wild pitch allowed a runner to score from third, and Titus Dumitru followed with a two‑run single, plating two more runs and restoring a four‑run advantage. The Curve held on from there, closing out the 12‑8 final.
The victory improved Altoona’s record in the early portion of the season, while Portland fell to the loss column. The Sea Dogs will look to rebound in their next home game, with the Curve set to continue their road swing.
