Portland Sea Dogs power their way to a 9‑3 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels in an Eastern League showdown in Richmond, Virginia.

The game began with a flurry of offense. In the first inning, Tyler McDonough stole a base for the Sea Dogs with a leadoff double, setting the stage for a run. Just a pitch later, Justin Gonzales delivered an RBI single that gave Portland a 2‑0 lead. The momentum kept building when Ronald Rosario answered with a two‑run homer in the same inning, pushing the score to 3‑0.

Portland’s surge continued in the second inning when McDonough again went deep, sending a blast down the left‑field line that was ruled fair. The blast proved to be a two‑run homer, extending the lead to 5‑0.

The Seagulls attempted a comeback, but the Sea Dogs stayed ahead. In the sixth inning, Brooks Brannon capped the night’s run production with a towering drive that cleared the center‑field wall. It marked his 20th homer of the season and kept the score firmly in Portland’s control.

Richmond’s offense was limited to a single run, as the Flying Squirrels failed to score beyond the early inning. In the ninth, Portland’s Will Turner chipped in a two‑run double, sealing the victory and ensuring the final tally read 9‑3.

Pitching was led by Devin Futrell of Portland, who walked off the game after six innings. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out seven, and issued one walk, earning the win for the Sea Dogs.

The win adds another notch to Portland’s season record, while the Flying Squirrels look to regroup as the Eastern League race heats up.
