Seth Jarvis scores overtime game-winner as Hurricanes storm back from 2-0 deficit to even Stanley Cup Final

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes completed a dramatic comeback in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night, rallying from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in overtime at the Lenovo Center.

The victory evened the best-of-seven series at one game apiece heading into Games 3 and 4 in Las Vegas.

Brett Howden carried the Golden Knights early, scoring two goals in the second period to stake Vegas to a 2-0 lead. Howden, who finished the regular season with just 12 goals, has been on a remarkable postseason run and now has 13 playoff goals, placing him squarely in the conversation for the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the postseason.

His first goal came when Mitch Marner sent the puck down the ice. Howden gathered it cleanly and fired a quick wrist shot past Frederik Andersen. Later in the period, Ivan Barbashev found Howden skating toward the offensive zone and hit him with a perfect pass. Howden made a nifty move to deke out Andersen and buried his second goal of the night.

The Hurricanes showed their resilience in the third period, storming back with three consecutive goals. Logan Stankoven started the rally by fighting for a loose puck behind the net and tucking a wraparound shot past Carter Hart. The goal ignited the home crowd and shifted the momentum.

Carolina tied the game when Mark Jankowski joined a rush and the puck pinballed through traffic before landing in front of him. He fired it off the right post and into the net for his first goal of the playoffs.

The Hurricanes took their first lead of the game when Jordan Staal tipped a shot from Shayne Gostisbehere during a power play with 4:35 remaining. The man advantage came after Golden Knights head coach John Tortorella challenged a potential goal, a gamble that backfired and gave Carolina the extra skater.

But Vegas answered quickly. With Andersen pulled for an extra attacker, Mark Stone batted a puck past Andersen with less than two minutes left to send the game to overtime. Replay showed the puck deflected off Carolina defenseman Jaccob Slavin's shoulder and into the net.

In the extra period, Tomas Hertl was called for tripping, placing the Hurricanes on the power play. Seth Jarvis, who had faced scrutiny for his lack of production in these playoffs, hammered home a one-timer to end the game and send the Lenovo Center into a frenzy.

The series continues with Game 3 on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
