Bangor’s Broadway Park Hosts Fundraising Run‑Walk, Raising Over $240,000 for St. Joseph Hospital

In a spirited display of community solidarity, more than 800 people converged on Bangor’s Broadway Park this past Sunday for a run‑and‑walk event that generated more than $240,000 for the St. Joseph Hospital’s SAFE (Surgery and Anesthesia for Family and Excellence) program.

The event, held in the park’s open‑space trails, drew participants of all ages and fitness levels. Runners sprinted the 5‑mile course while walkers, many of them families with children, strolled alongside. Organizers reported that the turnout exceeded last year’s participation, marking the program’s most successful fundraising day to date.

St. Joseph Hospital, a major medical provider in the region, relies on the SAFE program to fund essential surgical and anesthesia services. The money raised will help maintain high‑quality care for patients across Maine and support the hospital’s ongoing commitment to community health.

Organizers said the event’s success was due to a combination of enthusiastic volunteers, supportive local businesses, and the hospital’s outreach efforts. “Every mile we ran and every step we walked brings us closer to our goal of keeping critical medical services available to everyone in the region,” one volunteer explained.

The proceeds will be directed toward upgrading medical equipment, expanding staff training, and enhancing patient care protocols—efforts that benefit not only Bangor but the broader Maine population.

While the event’s primary purpose was fundraising, many participants also noted the sense of camaraderie it fostered. “It’s great to see people come together for a good cause,” a participant noted. “I think it’s going to make a real difference.”

The St. Joseph Hospital’s SAFE program continues to play a pivotal role in ensuring that residents of Maine receive comprehensive surgical care. The substantial donation from this event is a testament to the city’s commitment to its health infrastructure and the strength of its community spirit.
