Still thankful for Dr. Fauci | Letter

Still thankful for Dr. Fauci | Letter
100%

Watching the gang attack of a lifelong public health civil servant, Dr. Anthony Fauci, was one of the most painful experiences in recent memory.

Reminiscent of the McCarthy era witch hunts, it was carefully staged to trap those in the hot seat in any contradiction or misstatement. The full weight of government power and resources was leveled against the selected victim. The only protection for the “accused” was the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution.

This panel of bobble-heads had one objective and one objective only — and it wasn’t to add to our knowledge of how to better respond to future epidemics.

Fauci and other scientists were confronted with an unknown virus, rapidly overwhelming our hospitals and medical staffs. Equipment and supplies (respirators, face masks, disposable gloves) quickly became unavailable.

Additionally, the professional services had to combat a tsunami of misinformation and false predictions amplified daily by the press briefings led (or usurped) by President Trump, who once claimed that “it would be over by the weekend.”

One highly partisan group and conspiracy theory advocates such as Robert F. Kennedy Jr., continue to promote their bizarre theories (Clorox, worming medicine, CIA plot, Chinese biological weapons) instead of preparing the country for the next virus.

Instead of wise professional preparation, we get showboating, garbage-throwing political hacks
I thank Dr. Fauci for his courageous service .
