The announcement, posted on his Truth Social platform, warned that any nation, company or financial institution that extends a lifeline to Iran—including banks, businesses, airports or government agencies—will itself be hit with “tremendous economic consequences.”
In the post, Trump declared that “oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, front companies—It all needs to stop NOW,” and called the effort an “ECONOMIC D‑DAY.” He urged U.S. allies to “stand with the United States of America to isolate, and defeat, the Iran threat,” adding that “these maniacs are on the ropes, and these historic measures will cripple them and their ability to project terror worldwide.” The President also described Iran’s military as largely destroyed, saying the nation’s navy and air force have been reduced to “rubble” and that the Iranian rial is now “worthless” and the country is “hanging by a thread.”

In a swift regional reaction, the United Arab Emirates—a key U.S. ally—announced Wednesday that it was severing all financial and economic ties with Iran. The UAE cited Iran’s recent missile strikes against the Emirates and neighboring countries as the reason for the break. The move eliminates a major economic conduit that Iran had used to circumvent international sanctions.
