Three Drivers Hospitalized After Late‑Night Turnpike Crash in Falmouth

A multi‑vehicle collision on the Maine Turnpike in Falmouth left three motorists in the hospital after a crash that occurred just before midnight on Saturday. The incident took place on the northbound portion of the highway near Exit 63, prompting a diversion of traffic while emergency crews treated the injured.

The crash began when 24‑year‑old Devon Thomas of Vassalboro lost control of his Hyundai Elantra. The vehicle struck a series of guardrails before veering into the median and colliding with two other cars. Thomas was listed as critically injured at the scene and was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

The other two vehicles involved were driven by 36‑year‑old Pruxelles Mujinga of Portland and 22‑year‑old Madeleine Camaran‑Moyers of Lewiston. Both drivers sustained injuries that required medical attention; they were also air‑lifted to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

Fire and EMS crews from the state and local agencies responded promptly. Falmouth Police and Cumberland Police joined the scene, coordinating with Maine State Police officials who released a statement describing the sequence of events. The authorities closed the lane at Exit 63 for several minutes while the injured drivers were stabilized and transported.

Officials have not yet released a full investigation report or determined the exact cause of Thomas’s loss of control. No signs of speeding or impaired driving were noted in the preliminary statements. Traffic was diverted to the southbound shoulder until the highway was cleared of debris and the incident was declared safe for drivers.

All three patients are currently receiving care at Maine Medical Center, and their conditions are being monitored as the hospital’s trauma team continues treatment.

The Maine Turnpike Authority is reviewing the incident and will issue a follow‑up statement once the investigation concludes. For now, motorists are advised to stay alert and obey detour signage in the area.
