Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to return to Maine on Monday, with a stop planned at CompoTech, a defense and composites manufacturer in Brewer. The visit was confirmed Thursday evening through a White House news release.
The event is set to begin at 11 a.m., with doors opening at 9 a.m., according to an online registration page for those wishing to attend. The White House announcement did not specify the topic of Vance's remarks, and the vice president's office had not responded to requests for additional details by Thursday evening.
CompoTech specializes in defense and composite manufacturing and has facilities in the Brewer area. The company produces advanced composite components used in defense applications.
This marks Vance's second trip to Maine in recent months. In May, the vice president appeared at Bangor International Airport, where he spoke to approximately 400 attendees at a rally. During that visit, he focused heavily on allegations of Medicaid fraud, claiming that $46 million in improper MaineCare payments represented the "tip of the iceberg." Vance repeatedly attributed such fraud schemes to immigrants living in the country illegally, citing cases in states including Minnesota. He also criticized Democratic Governor Janet Mills for what he characterized as a lack of cooperation in addressing suspected fraud within Maine's Medicaid system.
The earlier remarks drew pushback from Maine Democrats. Governor Mills called Vance's comments "a weak attempt to distract from the Trump administration's failing agenda." A progressive group organized a protest outside the May event in response to his visit.
Ahead of Monday's scheduled appearance, the Maine Democratic Party already weighed in. A spokesperson for the party said Vance was coming "to Maine to pitch the Trump administration's failing agenda."
The Maine Republican Party did not respond to inquiries seeking comment or additional information about the upcoming visit on Thursday night.
Vance's selection of CompoTech as the venue comes amid ongoing attention to domestic manufacturing and defense production capacity, areas that have been priorities for the current administration. Brewer, located in Penobscot County, has a significant industrial base that includes manufacturers serving military and aerospace sectors.
Monday's event will be open to attendees who register through the vice president's office. Additional details about the visit, including the full scope of Vance's remarks and whether other officials will join him, have not yet been released.
