Vice President JD Vance to visit Maine on Monday
Vice President JD Vance will visit Maine on Monday to deliver remarks at a manufacturing facility in Brewer, according to the White House.
Vance is scheduled to speak at CompoTech, a company that manufactures defense and composite materials. The White House released a statement Thursday announcing the visit but provided limited details about the vice president's itinerary or the topics he plans to address.
The Maine Democratic Party offered sharp criticism of the upcoming visit, with a spokesperson characterizing Vance's trip as an effort "to pitch the Trump administration's failing agenda."
The vice president's office did not respond to requests for additional information Thursday evening, and a spokesperson for the Maine Republican Party also could not be reached for comment.
Monday's visit will mark Vance's second trip to Maine this year. In May, the vice president appeared at Bangor International Airport for a rally attended by approximately 400 people. During that appearance, Vance focused heavily on alleged Medicaid fraud, frequently attributing fraudulent schemes to immigrants present in the country without legal authorization. He also criticized Democratic Governor Janet Mills, accusing her administration of insufficient cooperation in addressing suspected fraud within Maine's Medicaid program.
Democratic officials pushed back against those remarks at the time. Governor Mills dismissed the criticism as "a weak attempt to distract from the Trump administration's failing agenda." A local progressive organization staged a protest outside the airport during Vance's May event.
It remains unclear whether the vice president plans to address similar topics during Monday's remarks at CompoTech. The company, which operates in Brewer, produces composite materials for defense and industrial applications.
