Waldo County needs Chip Curry back in the Senate | Letter

Swanville resident backs Chip Curry’s re‑election bid for Senate District 11
A letter sent to the editor of the Press Herald on Tuesday from Swanville resident Sarah Mattox announced her support for Senator Chip Curry’s campaign to return to the Maine Senate for a third term. The message came in the run‑up to the 2026 election cycle and highlighted Curry’s track record and local ties.
Curry, a longtime resident of Belfast in Waldo County, has served in the state Senate since 2018. During his tenure he has chaired the Housing and Economic Development Committee and sits on the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee. In those roles he has focused on issues that are of direct concern to Waldo County residents, including affordable housing, economic development, and emergency shelter services.
Mattox praised Curry for his responsiveness to constituents. She explained that she has written to him on several occasions about legislation that matters to her, and each time received “warm, personal and timely responses.” She added that she has seen Curry “out and about,” noting his presence in day‑to‑day county activities. She said he has lived in the area for about three decades and actively participates in community life, whether through his work as the student services coordinator at UMA Rockland or by serving on local boards.
“The community thrives when its representatives are visible and engaged,” Mattox wrote. “I have faith that he will continue to work diligently and with humility as our senator.”
The letter reflects a broader trend of local support for incumbents who maintain strong community connections and a record of addressing local policy priorities. With the election date still several months away, Curry’s campaign will likely continue to emphasize his experience and dedication to Waldo County interests.
For voters in Senate District 11, Mattox’s endorsement underscores the importance of personal responsiveness and community involvement in the state’s legislative process. The 2026 election will determine whether Curry retains his seat or is replaced by a new candidate.
