The National Weather Service is projecting [Election Day](https://www.pressherald.com/voter-guide/) in Maine to be a warm one, with high temperatures in the 80s across the state and conditions expected to be drier than the rest of the week. Related [Our voter guide has everything you need to know to vote in Tuesday's election](https://www.pressherald.com/voter-guide/) While temperatures were considered seasonable Monday, Tuesday is expected to mark the beginning of a warm spell. “We just have a ridge of high pressure that’s going to be building over the area,” explained Stephen Baron, a meteorologist at the weather service’s office in Gray. “When we get that, it allows heat and humidity to build up underneath it.” The weather service projects Tuesday’s high to reach 87 degrees in the Fryeburg, Lewiston and Waterville areas and 85 around Augusta and Farmington. Coastal communities, including Portland, can expect a high of around 80, while communities at higher elevations, like Jackman and Rangeley, may need to settle for the high 70s. Much of northern and Downeast Maine are also likely to see high temperatures in the 80s on Tuesday, according to the weather service’s office in Caribou. Advertisement Low temperatures in southern Maine on Tuesday morning should be in the 50s, while some communities might cool off to only around 60 degrees Tuesday night, according to the weather service. High temperatures Wednesday will likely be a few degrees hotter than Tuesday in much of southern and central Maine. While highs are expected to dip to the low 80s and high 70s later in the week, the weather service is cautioning that the humidity Wednesday will pose a potential risk. “It will probably feel more like upper 80s, maybe even near 90” in much of southern Maine, Baron said. And that humidity might give way to showers and thunderstorms later in the workweek. The weather service expects high temperatures to remain in the low 80s and high 70s through the weekend in much of the southern half of the state.
