Who’s on the ballot in Cape Elizabeth
Cape Elizabeth residents will vote on town council and school board members, with early voting available through October 29. The polling place is the council chambers in town hall, open Mondays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Four candidates are seeking two seats on the town council. Stephanie Anderson, who has been a council member since 2023 and previously served as Cumberland County district attorney and as a state senator, emphasizes building workforce housing, limiting property tax increases and improving cell service. Elizabeth Biermann, an attorney who has lived in Cape Elizabeth for seven years and is running for office for the first time, focuses on lowering costs through long‑term planning, keeping the town affordable and making efficient decisions. Christopher Groski, a software engineer also running for the first time, lists infrastructure improvements such as road paving, protecting open spaces and supporting the school board among his priorities. Timothy Thompson, a retired financial adviser who has served on the council for three years and represents the town on the county budget committee as well as serving as the council’s representative to the Maine Municipal Association, identifies rising property taxes as a major challenge and calls for increased state financial support.
Three candidates are competing for two school board seats. Elizabeth Goodspeed, who has a background in education and has children in the district, wants the schools to plan for technology use in the classroom and for future infrastructure needs. Karen Lechner, a retired public school counselor and grandparent of two students in the district, is running to maximize student resiliency, support educators and ensure schools have adequate resources. Julie Pelletier, an emergency medicine physician and parent of three Cape Elizabeth students, seeks to support educators, develop a plan for classroom technology, retain and recruit teachers and improve school facilities.
Early voting will continue through Oct. 29.
