Will Levis Stays Confident as He Battles for Role on Titans Depth Chart
NASHVILLE — Will Levis has not taken a competitive snap since January 2025, but the Tennessee Titans quarterback is making clear that he does not plan to stay on the sideline without a fight.
With the 2026 NFL season approaching, Levis is in the thick of a crowded quarterback room in Tennessee. Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, enters his second year as the Titans' starter. Levis, who has 21 career starts under his belt, appears headed for a third-string role, but is also competing with veteran Mitchell Trubisky for the backup position.
It is an uncertain situation for a player once seen as a building block for the franchise. Levis has not started a game since the end of the 2024 season and underwent season-ending surgery on his throwing shoulder in July 2025, which landed him on injured reserve for the entire year.
But if the time away has shaken his confidence, Levis showed no signs of it when speaking to reporters on Saturday.
"There are not 32 quarterbacks in this league better than me. I know that for sure," Levis said. "I know I've put the tape out there already that I'm a dang good quarterback in this league."
The 27-year-old, who played his college ball at Kentucky, went on to say that he is not focused on the depth chart or the amount of playing time that might come his way.
"I'm not worried about the competition per se or the amount of opportunities that they're going to give me," Levis said. "I just got to make sure that I'm ready for when they are given to me and just preparing to be the best at that as possible."
Levis's self-assessment stands in contrast to his statistical resume. In 21 career starts, he has a 5-16 record, with 21 touchdown passes against 16 interceptions and 17 fumbles. While the Titans struggled to put a competitive roster around him during his starts, Levis also had his share of inconsistent moments on the field.
He is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season, meaning every rep in practice and any opportunity that arises during the upcoming campaign could have a significant impact on his future.
For now, Levis is choosing to project certainty about his ability, even as the depth chart suggests he will need to climb past at least one quarterback to see the field again. The Titans open their season later this month, and how quickly that confidence translates into performance may go a long way toward determining what comes next for the 27-year-old.
