Woman dies after being hit by train in Brunswick
A woman died after being hit by a train in Brunswick on Tuesday.
First responders were dispatched to the railroad tracks near Bibber Parkway around 3:15 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian being hit by a train, Police Chief Scott Stewart said in a news release.
Emergency personnel found a woman dead on the tracks and determined she was hit by an Amtrak Downeaster as it was nearing Brunswick Station, Stewart said. The chief did not disclose the deceased’s identity.
The fatal incident was first reported by News Center Maine.
There are no sidewalks or road crossings near the scene, Stewart said, and investigators determined the pedestrian had parked their vehicle at a nearby parking lot and walked to the area.
In addition to crew members, 18 passengers were on board the train, according to Stewart. No injuries were reported to passengers or crew, according to an Amtrak spokesperson.
The tracks were closed for about two hours as officials investigated the scene, Stewart said.
The Brunswick Police Department and Amtrak Police are still investigating the incident.
